Many drivers ask themselves what happens to the data that is generated while driving. That is also justified. The economic use of personal data is very popular. Although new digital laws are planned in the European Union, this race between the major corporations will not change anytime soon. The economy is becoming increasingly networked, and there are many thousands of new offerings every day. These also apply to autonomous driving, for example.
The car as a data leech
There are hardly any cars left that are sold without assistance systems. This was supposedly to make the driver's mobile life easier. But that in turn means even more cameras and sensors in the car. Many drivers quickly ask themselves what happens to this data.
However, manufacturers should not be able to make any additional profit from the personal data collected with their newly networked products. This does not only mean intelligent cars of the modern age, but also smartwatches, voice assistants and complete industrial plants. Normally, it is precisely these devices that hoard and pass on the data generated by the user. This affects not only private individuals, but also entire companies.
The interest on the market
American Internet groups and car companies are particularly affected by this. They are strongly promoting networked products. It is not for nothing that various car companies cooperate with Internet giants such as Amazon. To ensure that access to this data is not simply made possible, data about third parties must not be accessed. This is what the new EU law stands for. Apple, Facebook, Amazon and Google should therefore stay out of it.
This idea from Brussels meets with the aforementioned resistance from most companies. It is quite clear that the smooth transfer of data is the central focus for these companies.
